Severe thunderstorms and violent tornadoes are expected to hit the Southeast U.S. this afternoon and tonight.

Widespread destructive winds, some reaching hurricane force, numerous tornadoes, scattered large hail up to baseball size are predicted for Central and Northern Mississipi, Northern Alabama, and  Western, Middle, and Southern Tennessee.

There is also a high risk of tornadoes and storms over a broad area across the central Gulf Coast, extending tonight over the Ohio Valley and toward the Central and Southern Appalachians.
